Local MP Alan Mak has been appointed to the Shadow Cabinet as Shadow Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology by new Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch.
He said: "I'm honoured to be joining the Shadow Cabinet as Shadow Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology.
"I look forward to championing UK science and tech and working hard to deliver a Conservative victory led by Kemi Badenoch at the next General Election."
He added: "My work as Havant Constituency MP is unchanged though, and I will remain active in our community, working hard for and helping local people plus organising community events such as my annual Jobs & Apprenticeships Fair, which takes place this year on 8 November."
Mr Mak was first elected as MP for Havant in 2015 and has previously served as a Minister in both the Department of Business and Trade and the Cabinet Office during the previous Conservative Government.
He also served as a Minister in the Treasury and the Government Whips’ Office, plus in the Ministerial teams at the Ministry of Defence and the Department for Work and Pensions.
