Local MP Alan Mak backed a new generation of sporting superstars on Hayling as he attended Hayling St Andrews FC’s end of season prize giving for a second year running as guest of honour. Mr Mak witnessed some stellar performances by local youngsters in a round-robin tournament before presenting this season’s trophies. Mak presented over 100 trophies to local youngsters aged from 7 to 11, recognising performance on the field.
The Presentation Day also encompassed a picnic for players and their families before concluding with a fundraising raffle and auction – with all proceeds being put towards good local causes.
Hayling St Andrews has been in existence for over 25 years at its Hayling Park site, and has had a long history of success in developing young footballers. The club is open to boys and girls of all ability, with numerous teams catering for everything from first-timers to serious players up to age 12.
Mr Mak has been a keen supporter of sporting clubs and societies since his election in May 2015. Over the past year, the Havant MP has been made Vice Chairman of Havant Rugby Club, and Honorary Member – and debutant goal scorer – at Havant Hockey Club.
The Havant MP and was also a key speaker at the Havant Borough Sports Awards 2016, whilst also providing regular backing to the popular sailing clubs in Langstone, Emsworth and Hayling.
Following the Presentation Day, Mr Mak said: “Supporting local sports clubs on and off the field is a priority for me as local MP. It’s great to see local children active and engaged in teams like Hayling St Andrews, which encourage teamwork, healthy living, and friendly competition.”
The Havant MP added: “I was delighted to attend the Presentation Day again this year. It was a wonderful way to celebrate a successful year for the club. Congratulations to all trophy-winners and all the players, coaches and parents who help the club continue to thrive and grow.”
Hayling St Andrews Chairman, Alex Johnson, commented: “We’re delighted to welcome our local MP Alan Mak to the end of season Presentation Day again, which celebrates all our achievements, personal and collective, over the past year.”
